## About Dodge County Excess Funds

Dodge County does not publish its tax sale excess funds list online. To find out whether the county is holding **excess funds** (also called surplus funds, tax sale overage, or excess proceeds) on a property, you must contact the Tax Commissioner's office directly using the information above.

When a property in Dodge County is sold at a tax sale for more than the delinquent taxes, penalties, interest, and costs owed, the leftover money is held by the county until a valid claim is filed and approved.

## Who Can Claim Dodge County Surplus Funds?

-   The former owner of record at the time of the tax sale
-   Heirs of a deceased former owner (probate documentation may be required)
-   Mortgage companies or other secured lienholders of record
-   Other parties with a legally recognized interest in the property

## How to File a Claim

Claims for Dodge County excess funds must be made in writing to the Tax Commissioner and supported by proof of identity and proof of interest in the property. When competing claims are filed, or when ownership is unclear, the Tax Commissioner may file an **interpleader action** in Superior Court and let a judge decide who is entitled to the money.
